Detection K-9's use their powerful sense of smell to detect illegal drugs, explosive devices, and firearms. These items are usually concealed in lockers, automobiles, luggage, or other storage items. The K-9's used by SDI are professionally trained and certified to detect the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine, alcohol, and commonly abused prescription drugs.The K-9's used by SDI also are trained to detect up to 20 of the most commonly used components in explosive devices. Such as C4, TNT, Smokeless powder, Black powder, PETN, DetCord, Potassium/Sodium Chlorates, Water Gel, Nitro/Ammonia Dynamite.SDI K-9's are professionally trained to locate firearms. Unfortunately, firearms are located in schools and businesses. It is our goal to deter students and employees from possessing firearms, thus creating a safer work place.

Other detection services use one K-9 team and claim to locate drugs, alcohol and explosives. It is our belief that drug detection teams and explosive detection K-9 teams should ALWAYS be separate. When a canine alerts, the handler, employer or school administrator need to be 100% sure if the alert is for narcotics, or for explosive devices. Obviously an explosive device alert is significantly more dangerous than an illegal narcotic alert and will be handled differently.The Department of Defense, other government agencies and many foreign governments use explosive detection canines, in many sensitive situations. Additionally, NONE of these canines are trained to locate illegal drugs, alcohol, or prescription drugs. They are highly trained to be proficient in location explosive devices. We have adopted that same policy.

SDI K-9 teams are trained to locate specific odors. Our narcotic canines are proficient at locating the four most common narcotics, and their derivatives as well as prescription drugs and alcohol. Our explosive canines are proficient at locating up to 20 of the most common explosive components and their derivatives. SDI K-9 teams work on a regular basis with numerous local and federal law enforcement agencies.
